What is Forest Pedagogy?

The idea of forest pedagogy was established in the USA in the 1960s and has soon spread across the European countries.

The forest pedagogy includes issues like environmental education on forest, relation and processes taking place in the forests, and it is based on the experience passed by forest pedagogues (a forester with pedagogic knowledge and skills) preferably directly in the forest environment.

The easiest way of bringing the forest environment with its all functions closer to the broad public.

Forest pedagogy does not present a competition to schools and scientific educational institutions, but it increases and provides additional knowledge in an entertaining way engaging all senses.

Why forest pedagogy?

  • it increases the interest in forests shown by the public  
  • it improves the relation between man and forests and nature in general
  • it enlightens the importance of forest management   
  • it promotes the understanding of tasks performed by forest workers
  • it increases the interest in wood as a renewable raw material

How is it carried out?

  • by direct contact with nature  
  • in an entertaining form using games  
  • by perceiving the forest with all senses
  • by own discovering, exploring and creative activities

Who is the forest pedagogy meant for:

  • each and everyone
  • mainly for preschool, school children and other groups of children
  • but also for families, adults, seniors, etc.
